What’s on in London for May 2010?

flowersMay 2010, is going to be an important month for London, with many big events happening all over the city. From flowers to concerts it’s going to be exciting for everyone.

1st – 9th May – Grand Designs Live
The show is the No.1 event for home design and innovation enthusiasts. Taking place at the London ExCeL Centre the show is ideal for anyone looking for inspiration in home improvements, from redecorating to renovating to even building. Tickets cost £13.

10th & 11th May – Rihanna Concert
International music superstar Rihanna continues her tour at the O2 Arena. Known for her spectacular performances and her iconic voice, demand for the two highly-anticipated shows are expected to be huge and those attending will be guaranteed an amazing night.

15th May – FA Cup Final: Chelsea v Portsmouth
One of the biggest events in the English soccer calendar takes place on Saturday 15th May at Wembley Stadium. The FA Cup is a much coveted trophy with teams throughout the country in different leagues competing to reach the final. This season’s final between Chelsea and Portsmouth will prove to be even more special as Portsmouth who were relegated from England’s top league this season are out to prove people wrong and give their fans something to cheer about.

24th May – England v Mexico
The England soccer team play Mexico at Wembley in their final home warm-up game before the World Cup. With the England players all playing for a place in the World Cup squad, it is expected to be a very good game.

25th May – State Opening of Parliament
On the 6th May a general election is being held to determine who will be Prime Minister of the new government. The official state opening of Parliament by the Queen will take place on the 25th May to confirm the new government. Her journey to the House of Parliament will follow the usual route from Buckingham Palace, with thousands expected to line the streets of London to catch a glimpse of her. The state opening of Parliament is a tradition that has been around for over 500 years.

25th – 29th May – Chelsea Flower Show
The 25th also sees the opening of the world famous Chelsea Flower Show, held on an 11 acre site opposite the Thames. This is a show where you can see the very best British horticultural designs and displays. The show starts at 08.00 finishing at 20.00 everyday apart from the last day, which ends at 17.30 on the final day. All tickets must be purchased in advance.

27th – 31st May – England v Bangladesh, Cricket Test Match
For cricket fans from the 27th till the 31st, England face Bangladesh in a Npower Test Match which will be held at Lords. For tickets check out the e.c.b website.

30th – 31st May – Lady Gaga Concert
The month ends with Lady Gaga performing two dates at the O2 Arena. Having already performed sell out gigs at The O2 in February, the 3-time Brit Award winner is back to delight fans with another highly-anticipated, jaw-dropping concert.
