What’s on in London for December 2017

The end of 2017 is near and Christmas is just around the corner. London is starting to buzz with all the festivities, and the high streets and shops are all showing the Xmas spirit. With this in mind there is lots of Christmas entertainment starting from the beginning of December. Se below for the new shows, The one off concerts and of course the big parties that all await you . No 1.  1st December 2017 to 7th April 2018 “Pinocchio” at the National Theatre.

Follow Pinocchio’s adventures as he leaves Geppetto’s workshop with Jiminy Cricket in the quest to become a real boy. Brought to life by the director of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and the writer of Matilda The Musical, this family-friendly musical features the classic movie soundtrack including When You Wish Upon a Star. No 2. 6th December 2017 till 30th June 2018 “Hamilton” at Victoria Palace Theatre.

Catch this the record-breaking Production, as the show transfers to London’s West End following a multi-award-winning run on Broadway.

Starring Christine Allado and Rachelle Ann Go, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s smash-hit musical is based on the story of Alexander Hamilton, one of America’s founding fathers and the right-hand man of General George Washington.

No. 3. 9th and 10th December 2017 “Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball” at The O2.

See some of the music world’s brightest stars perform over two nights at this annual sell-out Christmas show, including Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Craig David, Niall Horan, Rita Ora, Dua Lipa and more smash-hit artists. Returning to London for its 10th year, the star-studded concert is one of the capital’s most popular Christmas parties. No.4. 9th December 2017 till 14th January 2018 “Dick Whittington” at The London Palladium.

Laugh along to a traditional pantomime in one of London’s most famous theatres as Dick Whittington comes to the London Palladium.

Follow Dick as he heads to London to find his fortune, having some incredible adventures along the way this Christmas.

Panto legend Julian Clary leads the cast as Spirit of The Bells, alongside America’s Got Talent winner Paul Zerdin as Idle Jack and Nigel Havers in the role of Captain Nigel. Expect laughter, music, spectacle and lots of audience participation during this fun-filled festive show.

No.5. 11th to 22nd December 2017 “Christmas Carols” in Trafalgar Square.

Hear festive songs ring out across the iconic square during the annual Christmas carol performances in Trafalgar Square.

In the build-up to Christmas, 40 carol groups each sing for an hour beneath the world-famous Trafalgar Square Christmas tree (an annual gift from Norway since 1947).

No.6. 12th till 20th December 2017 “Menorah” on Trafalgar Square.

See the giant menorah light up Trafalgar Square throughout the eight days of Chanukah. Chanukah, sometimes known as Hanukkah or the festival of lights, is a Jewish celebration that dates back almost 2,500 years. Held from the 25th night of the Jewish month of Kislev, Chanukah is marked by the lighting of a candle in a menorah for each night of the festival. One of the lights of the nine-branched Trafalgar Square menorah will be lit each day during the festival.

No.7. 14th December 2017 till 29th April 2018 “ABBA: Super Troupers” at Southbank Centre.

This immersive exhibition charts the rise and legacy of the iconic Swedish pop group, whose upbeat music offered much needed escape and optimism during the strikes and financial turmoil of 1970s Britain.

Get a close look at some of ABBA’s original costumes, personal photographs and sketches, handwritten notes, album artworks and musical instruments. Uncover the background stories that shaped the group and their music. Examine their unique layered style of music and innovative take on music videos, and how these influenced later generations. Plus, explore theatrical recreations of a hotel room, music studio and disco which featured in some of their most memorable events. Tickets: £15 to £27.50

No. 8. 20th to 30th December 2017 “Disney on Ice presents Passport to Adventure” at The O2.

Venture into the magical worlds of some of your best-loved Disney characters, including The Lion King’s Simba in the Serengeti, Peter Pan in Neverland and Frozen’s Anna, Elsa and Olaf in snowy Arendelle.

No.9. 29th to 30 December 2017 “Peter Pan – The Arena Spectacular” at SSE Arena Wembley.

Meet the Darling children, the Lost Boys and Tinker Bell as they battle the evil Captain Hook in Neverland. Martin Kemp takes on the role of Captain Hook, with Bradley Walsh as Mr Smee and Matt Knight playing Peter Pan. They are joined by BMX riders, trapeze artists and stuntmen in a cast of more than 100 performers.

One of the biggest Christmas shows in London, this dazzling pantomime also includes a seven-metre (23-foot) crocodile and a full-size moving galleon set against a huge wall of water. Tickets: £20 to £63.

No.10. 31st December 2017 “London New Year’s Eve Fireworks”.

Hear Big Ben’s famous “bongs” ring out at midnight, followed by the UK’s largest annual fireworks display over the Coca-Cola London Eye, presented by the Mayor of London. Tickets for the 2017 fireworks event are on sale now. Priced at £10 each, you can book up to four. The hugely popular London’s New Year’s Eve fireworks have been ticketed since 2014 to ensure the event stays safe and fun for all.
