What’s on in London for January 2018

Welcome to 2018, as you would expect London embraces the new year with a full itinerary of events. Theirs Parades, Music, Theatre and Exibitions, so there is something for everyone. No 1. 1st January 2018 “London’s New Year’s Day Parade 2018”. Watch the spectacular New Year’s Day Parade along the streets of London’s West End this New Year’s Day. Every year, dancers, acrobats, cheerleaders, marching bands, historic vehicles and more assemble in the heart of the capital for a colourful celebration of contemporary performances and traditional pomp and ceremony, with huge balloons, music and confetti filling the air.

With more than 8,000 performers representing the London boroughs and countries from across the globe, this fantastic event attracts around 500,000 spectators and live television broadcasts in the UK and abroad.Catch all the festivities along the parade route, which runs from Green Park Tube station at 12pm, to Parliament Square at around 3.30pm, via Piccadilly Circus, Lower Regent Street, Pall Mall, Trafalgar Square and Whitehall.

You can watch the parade for free along the streets, or book grandstand tickets to guarantee a good view.

No 2. 7th January till 11th February 2018 “Cirque du Soleil’s Ovo” at Royal Albert Hall. See Cirque du Soleil’s dazzling show Ovo as it makes its UK debut at the Royal Albert Hall, following international success and performances in front of more than 5 million people worldwide. The cast of 50 hail from 17 countries and specialise in spectacular acrobatic acts. This includes London’s own Alanna Baker, crowned gymnastics European champion in 2011.

Taking its name from the Portuguese word for “egg”, Ovo’s story begins when an egg lands in the middle of a colourful ecosystem filled with insects who work, crawl, flutter, play and fight. The creatures are intrigued by this symbol that represents the cycle of their lives.

In the midst of this mystery, watch as a romance ensues between a gawky insect and the stunning ladybug he encounters as he arrives in this riotous community. Tickets: From £20. No. 3. 9th January till 14th April 2018 “The Birthday Party” at Harold Pinter Theatre. Enjoy the changes in power and shifting allegiances of dark comedy. Watch on as two strangers arrive at a coastal boarding house, upsetting the lives of its inhabitants and turning their festivities into a nightmare. Zoë Wanamaker leads the cast as the boarding house owner, appearing alongside stage and screen stars Toby Jones, Stephen Mangan and Pearl Mackie. The show is directed by the former artistic director of the Royal Court Theatre, Ian Rickson.

No.4. 10th January till 14th January 2018 “London Boat Show” at ExCeL London. London’s biggest annual boat show brings together experts, traders and celebrities from the world of boating and watersports to showcase the latest nautical trends and upcoming developments at the waterfront location.

London Boat Show 2018 highlights:

Get on the water at the Beach Club with free watersport classes, or relax with a drink at the beach bar to the sounds of a live DJ.

Take the whole family to the indoor activity pool to try out kayaking, dinghy sailing and stand-up paddleboarding for free.

Hear talks by Mike Golding, Dee Caffari and more in the Legends Theatre, hosted by Sky Sports presenter Alec Wilkinson.

No.5. 12th January 2018 “Paramore” at the O2 Arena. Paramore, 4x Grammy nominees and winner of the “Best Rock Song” trophy at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, have long established themselves as international rock superstars. No.6. 18th to 21st January “Lumiere London” Takes place on the North and South side of the River Thames. This is an exhibition of giant wall lighting projection displaying various shapes , objects and scenes on building and famous monuments all over London, so as you have probably guessed this is a night time show and is absolutely free. No.7. 19th to 21st January 2018 “Fast And Furious Live” at The O2. A live-action performance of the popular film franchise sees car acrobatic stunts, state of the art immersive 3D projection mapping and the legendary cars from the films. Tickets: From £35 to £75.

No. 8. 26th to 28th January 2018 “The France Show 2018” at Olympia London. The France Show returns, bringing the very best of the country to the UK capital – from tasting fine French wines and food, to discovering holiday ideas and your dream property. No.9. 27th January till the 8th April 2018 “Long Day’s Journey into Night” at Wyndham’s Theatre. Be moved by Bristol Old Vic’s production. Join the Tyrone family in the summer of 1912, unable to cope with either their past or the present, tensions erupt and lives are devastated. Award-winning stage and screen stars Jeremy Irons and Lesley Manville feature in this acclaimed production, which is directed by Richard Eyre.
