What’s on in London for August 2011

London Transfers March 2011This month is the time when London is full to the brim with tourists and school kids.

Holiday time really grips the city and there are lots of outdoor events happening this month It is also the start of the soccer season. For you football lovers coming to London this month, this will give you an opportunity to take in a game. Now the weather in July has not been great so lets hope the sun comes out in august and gives you a chance to visit the great sights of London during this month.

As usual find below our top 10 of events in London for this month.

No. 1.   August 6th is a great music event  “Field Day 2011”. This takes place in East London in Victoria Park, Bow. There will be lots of music from bands like The Coral, The Horrors, Warpaint and various top DJs. The event is on for most of the day and the organisers say they are trying to create a village fete type atmosphere.

So it should be a great day out. Tickets available on line.

No 2.   August 7th Soccer is back “The FA Community Shield Cup” as usual will be  held at Wembley Stadium. This year the game is between Manchesters finest

City v United. City are at present on a big buying spree with the team get stronger and stronger with the intention of being Manchester’s No. 1 team and taking over from there long bitter rivals United. This will be the first chance for the two teams to challenge for honours, neither will want to be beaten so this should be a very competitive game, with all the top players on show. No 3.  9th to 14th August  “FIVB Beach Volleyball International”. To be held at Horse Guards Parade. This is a warm up event for next year’s Olympic Volleyball competition which will be taking place in the same location. Come and watch 24 women’s beach volleyball teams compete in this entertaining event. Come and see how the location will be turned into a beach event with sand being brought in especially for the event.

No. 4. 12th to 14th August  “Big Screen at the O2” . This new film event will be taking place at the O2 centre. The show will give a behind the scenes access to a variety of movies, directors and A-list stars. All the major film companies are behind this and should be a great event. Tickets are from £35 to £165

No.5  13th August “Smirnoff Presents Sensation”. Taking place at the O2 centre.

This event claims to be the one clubbers should not miss. With top DJs, acrobats, a one of a kind stage show with performers, state-of-the-art lightshows, lasers, and fireworks all costing up to £2million in production no wonder the organisers claim this is the show not to be missed. No. 6.   13th August is the start of the Football Premiership season 2011/12. There are two games on in London, Fulham v Aston Villa and Tottenham v Everton.

No.7  18th till the 29th August “Potted Potter at the Garrick Theatre”

For all you Harry Potter fans this is a chance to see all 7 books on stage in 70 minutes.  With the help of endless costume changes , brilliant songs, crazy props, and a generous portion of Hogwarts magic this show tells the full Potter story. Very entertaining  and a great night out for all the family from 6 upwards.

No.8   24th August till 4th September  Batman Live at the O2”. The Caped Crusader is live on stage at the O2 along with Robin, butler Alfred and all the usual villains The Joker, The Riddler, Penguin and Catwoman. With lots of special effects, stunts, Video screen sequences and lots more this is going to be a really exciting memorable show can Batman defeat the baddies , well why not go see for your self.

No. 9   27th August  “Carnegie Challenge Cup Final” held at Wembley stadium.

This is Rugby League’s most historic and prestigious competition and is the only knock-out tournament of its kind to include teams from all levels of the sport.

No.10.   28th till 29th August “The Notting Hill Carnival”. The streets of West London will be alive with sounds, smells and excitement of Carnival. Billed as the largest event of its kind in Europe, this year will have all the usual floats, performers etc and with crowds of over 2.5 million visitors over the whole event this will be a fantastic weekend . Don’t miss it.
