What’s on in London for December 2011

london christmasThis is the month of festive cheer, with Christmas just around the corner and New year’s eve just a few weeks away. This month will see out the 2011 with some really bumper fun things to do. As usuall I have listed our top 10 things to do this month. So have a great time, and have  a “Happy New Year” from everyone at Harmony Cars.

No. 1.   Already running and will end 3rd January “Hyde Park Winter Wonderland”. Held in Hyde Park, this event has become a London Christmas must. This show is a Christmas styled Theme park. With fairground ride attractions from all over Europe, a Circus, an Ice rink , a Christmas Market, Food stools , Beer Garden, A Santa Land and this year is the special Cirque Extreme. This is a jaw dropping daredevil show with acts like the Motorbike globe of death, a high wire and trapeze act and the death defying Wheel of Death. There are also loads more at this fantastic event, and best of all entrance is free

The event opens daily (closed Christmas day ) from 10.00 till 22.00.

No.2.  1st December,  “Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree and Carols”.

Every year the people of Norway donate a massive Christmas tree to the people of London. This is there way of thanking us for helping to liberate them during the Second World War. This giant Pine tree is positioned right in the centre of Trafalgar square and is beautifully decorated with lights and tinsel. Every evening from the 5th December till the 22 nd there are carol services held between 5p.m. till 9p.m.

No. 3.   2nd till the 4th December is “A Taste of Christmas” held at ExCel centre..

This is an indulgent food and wine show featuring Gary Rhodes, Michel Roux Jr, Jamie Oliver and many more famous celebrity chefs. This show is designed help you plan your festive feasting with a focus on the best food and drink in London. Enjoy wine tasting and cookery classes plus discover great cheeses to adorn your Christmas table. Tickets are £17.50 each

No. 4.  5th December Paul McCartney is playing live at the O2 centre.

He will be performing all his solo and Beatles hits along with some of his new material. Come and see this legend perform live. At nearly 70 years of age he can still show the young ones how to Rock and Roll.

No.5. 12th December,   Chelsea v Manchester City, for all you Soccer fans this is one of the top matches being played this month. Chelsea will be at home at Stanford Bridge playing the current top of the table, Manchester city. With everyone at the moment trying to knock City off the top of the Premiership Chelsea are one of the best teams equipped to do that job. For tickets check out the Chelsea web site or contact the Chelsea box office. This is an evening 8 p.m. Kick off.

No. 6.   13th till the 19th December is “The London International Horse Show”.at Olympia. This a fantastic Equestrian Christmas party and is host to the UK’s only Show Jumping and Dressage FEI World Cup qualifiers. There will be displays this year from Lorenzo the Flying Frenchman and The Lusitano ride from Portugal. There will also be a great shopping village and a special West End Christmas Finale.

No.7.  13th December “Christmas Concert” held in Westminster Abbey this is an evening of Christmas music featuring choral performances sung by the Abbey Choir with seasonal readings and traditional carols. Starts at 7 p.m.

No.8.   16th, 17th, and 19th December “George Michael” will be at Earls Court.

For the first time in a number of years George is back on stage with his “Symphonica” tour. His five other London dates are a complete sell out. For tickets contact Earls Court box office.

No. 9.   21st December, our second top soccer match of the month is Fulham v Manchester United at home at their Craven Cottage ground. This is a great chance while you are in London to see Manchester United in action at a top Premiership game. Kick off is at 8 p.m.

No.10.   31st December  “New Years Eve Fireworks Display”. This will be a fantastic night heralding the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games year. London’s official New Year’s eve fireworks display will be from The London Eye and barges stationed all the way down the Thames up to Westminster bridge. With a backdrop of  London’s famous buildings, and monuments this will be one of the most spectacular Fireworks displays London has ever seen.

For best viewing locations go to the Charing Cross embankment early, as this will get very crowded come midnight.
